Giacomo Puccini - “Un bel di, vedremo” (Madame Butterfly)

    conducted by Herbert von Karajan

I love going to the opera. On my first overnight trip to the city when I was 18, my friend asked what I wanted to do and I picked The Metropolitan Opera.  Her parents bought us tickets to see the Franco Zeffirelli production of La Traviata and I was entranced.  I’m pretty sure that if I stretched on my tippy toes I could have touched the ceiling of the theatre; we were so high up that there were maybe two rows behind us.  It was no matter.

I’ve been lucky enough to see several productions in the years since. But, I have never seen Madame Butterfly. It’s one of those things that I keep in my back pocket to share with someone truly special.  I haven’t met them yet.
